150th Opening Ceremonies & Spirit Day

The official start of each school year is celebrated at Opening Ceremonies, when students, faculty and staff wear blue and gold and gather in the Khoury Courtyard to hear words of welcome from Mr. Nelson and from the Student Body President. This year will also include an address from RCDS alumnus Dennis Parker ‘73, who will kick-off a year-long alumni speaker series. Students will spend time in multi-grade groups to participate in a community-building exercise centered on the 2018-19 theme of empathy.

The year-long speaker series will bring several RCDS alumni to campus to speak to students. Some alumni will return as experts in subject matter and speak in smaller classroom settings. Others will speak at larger gatherings on ways in which the School’s values have influenced their lives.
